Section 1: Admission
All persons who profess faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and who accept the ideals of this church as expressed in the Church Covenant and the Core Values, and are otherwise qualified for membership may be admitted on recommendation of the Minister and the Board of Deacons. Candidates for membership should participate in classes of instruction appropriate to their situation. These classes will include Baptist principles and identity, and also the ideals as expressed in the Church Covenant and the Core Values.
Section 2: Qualifications for Membership
First Baptist Church, Halifax, affirms the principle of regenerate church membership. Persons who are qualified to be members of this church are:
(i) Believers who have been baptized in this church by immersion, or, in exceptional circumstances by some other form deemed acceptable by the Minister and the Board of Deacons, and who have publicly professed their faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
(ii) Believers who present letters of transfer from other Baptist churches.
(iii) Believers who present letters of transfer, or other satisfactory evidence of baptism and Christian experience, from another Christian church.
Classes will be held in the fall to prepare people to join First Baptist Church Halifax either by Believer’s Baptism or by transfer from another Christian Church. Separate classes for youth will take place following Sunday worship in the winter beginning with lunch and finishing at 1:30 pm.
The class will cover such questions as: What does it mean to be a Christian? Why do Baptists baptize the way they do? What is different about a Baptist Church? How can I continue to grow in my faith? What is the First Baptist Church Halifax story?
If you are interested in participating in the classes, please contact Rev. Jenny Drewitz (902-422-5203). The class is always open to inquirers who have not made up their minds about joining the Church, but have lots of questions!
