First Baptist Church Halifax extends sincere sympathy to Sharon and Frank McGill and family in the loss of Sharon’s mother, Iola Stronach, who died on February 3rd.
STRONACH, Ethel “Iola” – 96 of Halifax and formerly of Kingston passed away, Monday, February 03, 2014 in Northwood Centre, Halifax. Born in North Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Elwood and Matilda (Roach) Downie. In early years, Iola was employed at the Red & White grocery store, Kingston as well as Steven’s Flower Shop and the Sundry Shop. She was a lifelong member of the Kingston United Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. Iola was also a founding member of the Kingston & District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and had been an active member of the Canadian Red Cross. She is survived by daughters Gail Thomas (Jack McParland) Perth, Ont. and Sharon (Frank) McGill, Halifax, grandchildren Kimberly and Andrew, great grandchildren Christopher, Ruth and Jack and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Murray (1995); sisters Ora, Edna, Myrtle, Helen, Mildred, Alice and brother Oakley. Visitation will be held Wednesday February 5, 2014, 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. Funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, Kingston United Baptist Church, Kingston, NS, Rev. Nelson Metcalfe officiating. Interment will be in the North Kingston Cemetery.
