The family of Alan Doane with sadness announces his passing on March 2, 2018. Alan was the son of Harvey R. and Anne M. Doane. He is survived by his brother, Larry (Elise); sister Beverly Healey (Ed); nieces and nephews, Steve, Tom and Ted Doane, Jen Scott, David, Anne and Chris Healey; and many grand-nieces and nephews. Alan was predeceased by his parents; and his former wife, Joanne Snair who died in a mountain climbing accident in South America. Alan was well known as a bridge teacher and was at the diamond level in duplicate bridge. He had fun challenging players on the internet and he won many tournaments at home and away. In fact, he loved the challenge of any game and always gave a good account of himself. Alan had a deep interest in sports and when he was no longer able to play sports he watched others play on TV. He could tell you stories and statistics on many sports and could always answer any questions asked of him. His grand nephews and nieces found this most intriguing and sometimes frustrating. No one could ever outsmart Uncle Al. In his youth he played a lot of golf. He started golf caddying for his mother and later became the Junior Golf Champion of Nova Scotia. He continued to play well thereafter. He was a long-time member of Ashburn Golf Club. A lifelong resident of Halifax, he went to Sir Charles Tupper School, Cornwallis Junior High School, Queen Elizabeth High School and Dalhousie. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
