In Memory Of Barry Boyd

Barry Mitchell Boyd
1954-2026

It is with great sadness that the family announces the unexpected death of Barry, age 71, at home in Avonport, on Friday, April 17, 2026. Born in Windsor, he was a son of the late Eric and S. Margaret (Smith) Boyd.

Barry was one of eight children and attended Windsor Regional High School and Hants Regional Vocational School. He worked at several garages before working for the Town of Windsor for 33 years, retiring as Supervisor of Public Works in 2020. After retirement, he worked for long-time friend, Chris Gwynne-Timothy at All Outdoors Landscaping as a truck driver. Barry was a veteran firefighter of the Windsor Fire Department with over 16 years service. He was awarded the Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada in 1999.

Barry cherished moments with family, friends and good food at the cottage on Mockingee Lake, where he delighted in fishing, storytelling and playfully teasing his grandson, Parker. From childhood, Barry had a special affection for Avonport and lived there for the last eight years enjoying being close to family, friends and bass fishing in the Minas Basin. He took pride in maintaining vehicles and enjoyed leisurely drives and the tunes of “old-time music.” He loved the many dogs and cat, Baxter, that he and Krista had over the years. Known for his infectious humour and generosity, Barry was always ready to lend a hand to whoever needed it.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Paul Young); grandson, Parker, all of Lockhartville; special friend and companion, Marie Dalton Meisner, West Northfield; step-mother, Mattie, Bedford; brother, Jim, Belleville, ON; sisters, Anne (Ron) Huestis, Bedford; Carolyn (Bill) Armstrong, Avonport and Florence (David) Bartol, Bayswater; brothers-in-law, Andy (Jill) Cochrane, Hubbards and Doug (Michelle) Cochrane, Truro; sisters-in-law, Susan Cochrane, Brooklyn and Deborah Boyd, Halifax; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Barry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, Krista and her parents, George “Toot” and Margaret Cochrane; brothers, Rev. John, Rev. Michael and Reginald “Reg”; brother-in-law, Dennis Cochrane; as well as close family friend, Doug Parker.
