There are over 16,000 people in our province living with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia, this number expected to double by 2050. The Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia is an invaluable source of supportive education, counseling, and programs for these individuals, their care partners, and the health care professionals who serve them.
On Sunday, May 28, the First Baptist Halifax Forget-Me-Nots, consisting of John and Debbie Boyd, my husband Brian Ashton, and myself, participated in the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s fundraiser at the Emera Oval. Our prayers for good weather were answered with warm, sunny skies. About 500 participants were registered, compared to 200-300 in pre-COVID times. We heard from a few speakers, including the granddaughter of Alexa McDonough (pictured under the tent – see photo below), who said that she had participated in the Walk with her extended family since the age of 7; now 21, this was the first year that they were walking in memory of Alexa.
Sponsorships continued to be posted to our Team page for over a week after the Walk, with a recent tally of $2,326.00, surpassing our $1000 goal by more than twofold. Overall, $112,237 has been raised by the Walk. Donations designated for the Walk will be accepted for several more weeks:

We are thankful for the Congregation’s support and look forward to even greater participation next year!
