Summer Book Club

Will you read with Rusty and Luke this summer?

This summer’s preaching series will be guided by Barbara Brown Taylor’s Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith. Each of the book’s twelve chapters presents a practice for nurturing faith in the midst of our ordinary lives in this wonder-filled world.

We thought it might be fun to invite you to read along with us. The book is available to order through the King’s Co-op Bookstore and Bookmark and can also be purchased as an e-book through Kobo and other platforms.

Email Rusty if you plan to read along and would be interested in gathering 2-3 times this summer with FBCH friends to discuss the book and practice the delight of being together (we’ll plan both in-person and online gatherings).

Note, if you plan to order the book locally the estimate is that it will arrive in about thirteen days. It won’t take long to catch-up with the summer series that starts this Sunday. We’ll plan a first gathering a few weeks into the series so everyone can have time to get their copy.

More about the book:

Taylor shares how she learned to find God beyond the church walls by embracing the sacred as a natural part of everyday life.

An Altar in the World shares:

  • Meaningful ways to discover the sacredness within the small things like walking, working, and prayer.
  • How your ordinary tasks can be a chance to meditate if you take time to notice the sights, smells, and sounds around you.
  • The importance of true human connection.
