In Memory Of Alice Auld

Alice Lavinia Auld
January 21, 1925 - Oct 14, 2019

Age 94 of Halifax, pass-ed away peacefully on October 14, 2019 in the QEII Health Sciences Center. Born and raised in Salisbury, N.B., Alice was the daughter of the late George Allison Trites and Sara (Drake) Trites. Alice attended Acadia University at the young age of 16, where she received a Bachelor of Secretarial Science degree in 1945. Acadia University was also where she met her college sweetheart (Dr.) Benson “Bense” Auld. Alice and Benson would marry in 1948, and together they shared a happy life, raising four children and had many friendships that lasted a lifetime. In 1992 Benson passed away, and with the support of her family, her church family and a wide circle of friends Alice continued to live fully for another 28 years, travelling, curling, bowling, playing bridge, volunteering, gardening and being an active member at her First Baptist Church. Her special times were spent at Mason’s Point, a place where all of her family would gather. Alice loved and cherished her time with her children and her six grandchildren, and they certainly loved their “Nanny Woofie”. Alice was very much a lady … soft, loving, caring and giving, but always ready to hear a good joke and share one of her own. With a twinkle in her eyes, she generously shared with everyone her warmth, genuine kindness, and gentle spirit. It is little wonder she was adored by all that knew her, and especially her family. Alice is survived by her children, Sherry (Bob) Kane, Florida; Marsha (Gary) Hurshman, Halifax; Greg (Susie White) Auld, Halifax; and Pam (David Hebb) Auld, Halifax; and by grandchildren, Anna, Nick, Allison, Benson, Laura, and Geoffrey. Although her last few years were somewhat of a struggle, she was able to find joy in each and every day thanks to the wonderful care, and even more, the beautiful friendship she had with her Newfoundland caregivers Sheila, Mamie and Elsie. For your generous love and constant support, a huge thank you from the family. A special thanks to Dr. Ripley and all of the staff on 8.4 for their gentle and attentive care this past week. A celebration of Alice’s life will be held Thursday, October 17th, 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church, 1300 Oxford St., Halifax. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Alice’s memory may do so through a donation to Hospice Halifax, or a charity of your choice.
