In Memory Of Ann Gale

Anastasia “Anne” Gale (Melitides)
1942 - 2024

We are saddened to announce that Anastasia “Anne” Gale (née Melitides), 82, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Born in Halifax on June 25, 1942, she dedicated her life to caring for others—both professionally and personally—leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service.

After graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1960, Anne pursued her passion for nursing at Dalhousie University and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Nursing, focusing on education. As part of that program, she graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing as a member of the Class of 1965 B. Her time at the Victoria General School of Nursing led to life-long friendships.

Anne taught at the Victoria General Hospital Nursing Program, where she shaped the careers of many aspiring nurses with her knowledge and compassion. After years of dedication to her profession, Anne chose to retire from teaching to focus on raising her family and giving back to her community.

A devoted wife to her late husband, Gordon, and a loving mother to her son, Stephen, Anne found great joy in nurturing those around her. She was predeceased by her parents, Eugenie (Couvaris) and Nicholas Melitides. Her generosity extended beyond her family as she actively volunteered with the Junior League of Halifax, the schools that Stephen attended, and First Baptist Church Halifax.

Anne’s love for needlework and sewing was evident in the beautiful pieces she created over the years. She was a long-time member of the Town Clock Stitchers, a hand embroidery guild, taking on leadership and teaching roles. For several years she was also part of the Marigold Embroidery Guild in Truro. Through the guilds, she took part in many workshops locally and at a national seminar. Over the years, Anne took great joy in the company of the cats and dogs that were part of her life. She also found joy in reading, always eager to immerse herself in a good book. Her faith played a central role in her life, and she was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Halifax.

A celebration-of-life service will be held at First Baptist Church Halifax, located at 1300 Oxford Street, on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Rusty Edwards officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the doctors and nurses at the QEII Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate care of Anne. Special thanks are also given to the staff at London Hall – especially to Mark Dulay, Megan McCarron, and Maria Baylosis – for their kindness and support during Anne’s time there. Anne’s warmth and generosity touched many lives. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
