Bruce Calvin Sterns
August 13, 1927 - July 15, 2020

Age 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Glace Bay, he was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Martha Sterns; and siblings, Eugene, Dorothy, Helen, Vera and Arthur. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, June (Tutty) Sterns; children, Kevin Sterns (Chuck Skowron), Susan (Roy, predeceased) Turner, Sandra (Ben) Popwell and Scott (Margaret) Sterns; grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie, Kristy, Ellen and Charlie; and great-grandchildren, Julia, Benjamin, Colton and Leila. Bruce served his home town of Glace Bay as Town Clerk for many years until his retirement in 1987. Bruce was a deacon of the Glace Bay Baptist Church and upon moving to Dartmouth became an active member of First Baptist Church Halifax. Mira River was his second home for many years, and maybe first in his heart, where many a story was told, bonfire lit and smelt and mackerel caught. Laughter and family surrounded and all were welcome any time. Bruce enjoyed many retired years in Florida with June and many close friends. In addition to his many personal and professional achievements he could not be more proud of the achievements of his children and grandchildren. He saved every clipping and memento big or small. Bruce was an avid gardener with stunning gardens in Glace Bay and Mira and established a beautiful garden in Dartmouth. He was delighted to talk about what to plant and would forever sneak in one more tomato plant. Grampie will be forever loved and remembered by his family. A service will be held at a later date. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Bruce, please think of First Baptist Church Halifax, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, QEII Health Centre Foundation – Palliative care, or The Lung Association.
