In Memory Of Doreen Bennett

J. Doreen Bennett, age 90, of Halifax, died Sunday, May 26, 2019. Born in New Glasgow in 1928, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Carrie Bennett. Doreen was a graduate of the New Glasgow High School and Acadia University where she took advanced studies as a professional secretary. Following several years employment with Revenue Canada in Ottawa, she returned to Halifax to join the W.H. Schwartz Company, eventually achieving an Executive Position as Corporate Secretary. Doreen was well-respected as a person with great integrity and loyalty to the Schwartz Company. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Halifax where was active in the Women’s Auxiliary and Women’s Missionary Society and served as Church Clerk and Member of the Board of Management. Doreen served her country as a volunteer in the Navy Reserve. She enjoyed attending Neptune Theatre, Symphony Nova Scotia and ice skating competitions and relished the opportunity to spend time at the family cottage in Pictou County. During retirement she enjoyed traveling to Cuba, the Caribbean and throughout Canada with her friends. Doreen moved to the Berkeley on Gladstone Street in 2011 where she appreciated the personal advantages of supported retirement living. She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy and is survived by her brother, Richard (Nancy); several nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation or service by request. A private family interment will take place in the Bennett Family plot in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Sandbar Mental Health Endowment C/O Aberdeen Health Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
