In Memory Of Edward (Eddie) Gregory Doane

Edward (Eddie) Gregory Doane
May 29, 1991-April 20, 2018

Edward (Eddie) Gregory Doane of Halifax, Nova Scotia died unexpectedly at the age of 26. Greg was surrounded by love. He is survived by his parents Marion and Ted; his brother Peter, Sasha Morozova; his grandparents Larry and Elise Doane, and Ronald and Agnes (Doll) Wile; and his treasured aunts, uncles and cousins. Greg adored music. His DJ name was Eddie Equilibrium, and he loved sharing his electronic house music and 12” records with others. He was a philosopher of life; he attended and performed at local music festivals and local venues where he established many lasting friendships and shared his passion for the world. He enjoyed progressive rock music, and along with his Dad traveled to many concerts. He had a terrific method for securing front row seats, and he loved Rush. When he was young, Greg sang with the Halifax Boys Honour Choir, where he and his brother Peter sang alongside the Men of the Deeps, and was part of the Sobey’s Stars of Christmas. Believe! Greg also made pilgrimages to the Burning Man Festival in Nevada where he met Anna Jenkins. Anna describes Greg as a young man with an old soul who had big dreams and endless amounts of love. She stated that, “His sweetness was innocent, his passion was pure and his love was great. He was dedicated and hardworking, he made big things that didn’t make sense to me happen. He was, to me, a modern John Lennon”. Greg graduated from the first graduating class of boys from the Fountain Academy, Sacred Heart School of Halifax and continued his studies at Kings College and Dalhousie University before he ventured into the world of ideas. He was a visionary, an entrepreneur, a self-proclaimed techno-industrialist; he didn’t see the barriers for developing new ideas. In recent years Greg co-founded a web application called Contractit and a new cryptocurrency. At the time of his death he was developing a music studio, and computers for Bitcoin mining. He was a gentle person who had tremendous love for his family and all animals, especially his family dogs Ghillie and Rose, and Kirby the cat. He always saw the best humanity in people and was sincere in his forgiveness of others. He lived on the autism spectrum, and lived with non-verbal learning disabilities; however, he overcame these challenges daily with patience and persistence and the support of others in this journey, especially his mother Marion who was the foundation of his life. The family will miss their “growly bear”. Katherine Graham was quoted as saying that “A mistake is simply another way of doing things”. A celebration of Greg’s life is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Halifax (1300 Oxford Street). His Mom and Dad would welcome your thoughts and prayers at mmdoane@gmail.com. Should friends desire, donations can be made to Amnesty International.
