Kennedy (Dewis), Marion Lee, of Halifax, passed away suddenly, at home, on August 14th, 2025 at the age of 93.

She was born April 11, 1932, to the late Dr. George M Dewis and Mildred (Newcomb) Dewis and was educated in Halifax City schools and at Dalhousie University. In her early years, she was very involved in music, especially piano and the organ for which she achieved the degree of Licentiate of the Royal School os Music in London, England. She served as Interim Organist at many Halifax churches.

Following graduation from Dalhousie in 1953, she was employed as Assistant Librarian at the Chronicle Herald for two years, then returned to Dalhousie for her Bachelor of Education degree.

Marion enjoyed her teaching career of 27 years at Duc d’Anville School in Clayton Park. In her retirement she travelled extensively, became an active Bridge player, volunteered at the old Halifax Infirmary, Pier 21 Gift Shop and for the Cancer Society. She also served on various committees as a lifetime member of First Baptist Church Halifax.

Marion was predeceased by her husband, George M. Kennedy, of Bridgetown, NS in 1993, and by her parents. Her brother Fraser Dewis predeceased her in 2022.

Surviving are her 4 children, Jamie, Halifax; Pam (Michael DeGrace), Toronto; Peter, Halifax; Diane (Terry Rudiak), Burlington, Ontario; grandchildren Tyler, Sydney and Rochelle Rudiak, Burlington, Ontario. She is also survived by her brother Murray (London, Ontario); and sister Pam (Engel), Vermont; nieces and nephews and several cousins.

Cremation has taken place and at her request. Memorial visitation will be held from 3-5pm on September 5th in the Lounge of the Roxbury Condominium, 202 Walter Havill Drive, where she resided.
