YETMAN, Roy – 93, of Dartmouth, passed away January 5, 2018. Born on May 3, 1924 in Brighton, England, he was the son of the late George and Winnifred Yetman. Roy was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Roy was a member of the RCAF for several years during WWII. Roy and his family immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1947.He said “It was the best thing I ever did”. Roy was a mechanic by trade. He became a true self-made man by creating, owning and operating several businesses, including a laundromat, a vending business and an apartment building. In his younger years, Roy was involved in the Halifax dance scene, taking ballroom dancing lessons. Roy loved playing chess, which he taught to adolescents in the Halifax-Dartmouth area. He also enjoyed playing bridge in a bridge club, which is where he met his wife, Betty Player. They married in 1966. They spent many years joyfully tending to their lovely gardens and entertaining in their beloved sunroom. They were both very socially active in their community, and committed much time and effort into the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre. Roy is survived by his step-son, David Player, Alberta; step-daughter, Penelope Player, PEI; dear friend, Theresa (Terry) Bartlett; as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
