In Memory Of Winnifred Fleming

Winnifred Diane "Winnie" Fleming
1940 - 2022

Passed away at age 82 on August 12, 2022. Winnie was a life-long resident of Stellarton and the only child of Jennie (Young) and Richard Black. Predeceased by Roger, her loving husband of fifty-four years, Winnie had many fond memories of her thirty years as an elementary school teacher. Outside of her career, Winnie was very involved in the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), having served two terms as President and two terms as Secretary. She also served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and as a member of the RCIA team for many years. Winnie enjoyed volunteering at the food bank, a cause special to Roger, and, in later years, greatly enjoyed her time as a docent at the Crombie Art Gallery. She was a keen bridge player, an avid reader, and a talented watercolour painter. Winnie and Roger spent the years following her retirement travelling, and she always looked forward to her annual excursion with her cousin Susan Green and aunt Kay Millard to the Stratford Festival. Winnie’s favourite times were when her family was all together. She loved playing with her grandchildren and baking their favourite cookies. Winnie is survived by her children: Richard (Karey), Lynne Evans (Clyde), and Katherine Watton (John); and her grandchildren: Kathleen MacDougall, Lauren and Richard Watton, and Marcus Fleming. The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the care and kindness Mom received from the staff of Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou. Most of all, the family is grateful for the friendship and love Mom shared over the final two years of her life with her caregiver, Nancy Langford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 19th at 1:00 pm at the Church of the Holy Name in Westville. Private burial to follow at Our Lady of Lourdes. In lieu of flowers, donations in Winnie’s memory may be made to the Pictou County Food Bank East.
