Join us on Sunday mornings for our regular service at 10:30 am – while Queer Spirit Church is on pause. We hope to create a safe and welcoming community for people to worship, learn, and grow in their faith journey. Queer Spirit Church welcomes all people to experience God’s enduring love through music, prayer, scripture reflections and communion. Be you, be queer, be queer allied, be here and be loved!

Meet Rev. Arla Johnson (she/her)

Minister of Inclusive Community

Arla Johnson earned her Master of Divinity degree from the Atlantic School of Theology in May 2021 and became the first openly gay Baptist clergy-person ordained in Canada on April 2, 2023. Arla began attending FBCH with her wife, Julie, when they relocated to Halifax in 2012. In fact, she and Julie were married at FBCH in 2017.

FBCH has been a loving and accepting place for me and my late husband Lorne, and singing in the senior choir is always a joy under Lynette's leadership. I love the various levels of musical styles in the repertoire which keeps the choir challenged and motivated.

Volunteering with outreach/social justice at FBCH fills me with hope and offers me the chance to give something back to my community and make a difference to the people around me. Hopefully, providing a helping hand will change someone’s life. It certainly changes my life. The Bible says: “Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.” Isaiah 58:10
